Weekend getaway: Part 2

Monday, June 30, 2014

This weekend Christian and I went to Las Vegas for a wedding which also happened to be on my birthday.  Sans Carter.  This is the second time we left him for a weekend (see first post here).  Luckily this time it went much more smoothly!

We arrived on Thursday for the rehearsal dinner at the Four Seasons- so good!  Then on Friday I woke up at 3am.  Oh time change- no good for a momma who doesn't sleep well on the east coast!

By 8:30am we were walking the strip looking for a nice spot for my birthday breakfast.  And we found it at Paris.  It was perfect!

Later we went to the pool at Mandalay Bay- but it was sweltering.  So we didn't last too long.

Then while the guys got ready for the wedding another guy's wife and I took the groom's key and headed to the Four Season's pool.  And what a difference!  That was wonderful and relaxing and shaded!  We loved the impeccable service like refilling our water pitcher with fresh ice and frozen peppermint patties brought around to us and a little complimentary raspberry peach smoothie.

The wedding was so much fun!  The food was amazing and the DJ was the best I've ever heard at a wedding.  You know he's good when the wedding is only 30 people and the dance floor was crowded all night!
Although the next morning I was in bad shape when I woke up at 5:47.  My hamstrings and calves were so sore from dancing all night and wearing 4 inch heels.  Oh the woes of the sober, yet obviously out of shape pregnant lady!

We ended our little getaway with breakfast poolside at the Four Seasons.  It was wonderful.
Meanwhile, our sweet little guy was mostly on his best behavior and seemed to be having a lovely time with his grandparents.  He apparently had an absolute blast when Ian came for the day on Saturday!

So thankful for such a fun getaway & a happy little guy at home!

(June 17)
I don't think my belly looks this big most of the time!
Christian was away for work so I had to resort to the bump selfie this week
A short summary of the last few weeks- usually waking up between 3-5, huge boobs (32G), first kicks right at 15 weeks, starting to have a little belly- but mostly looking chubby.

Looking forward to: going to Vegas next week for a wedding- pool time and a book for me!

Summer....at last!

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

hello june

To say that I'm happy it's summer is a complete understatement.  I sat down and tried to write a working mom update, now that I've done it for an entire school year.  But I decided it wasn't publish-worthy.

In summary- it was a tough year.  Aside from Carter's many illnesses (ear infection after ear infection, strep throat, pink eye etc) and his constant difficulty separating at daycare, I also had a few very challenging students in my class.  It was definitely an adjustment from SAHM-life from the previous 15 months.  There are definitely parts of working mom life that I liked- getting dressed, having a job with a paycheck, having responsibilities outside of home, talking to friends at work, but by the end of the year the challenges seemed to downplay the good parts.  But luckily as a teacher you get to reboot and recharge for the summer and have a fresh start again in August.

But now onto summer!  Onto strawberry picking, beach weekends, pool days, sidewalk chalk, reading, watching daytime tv, blogging, actually trying recipes and projects on Pinterest, and this year preparing for baby #2!

We're only 2 days in, but already I'm loving life!  This weekend we went to the beach house with my family and Carter had such a blast running around with his cousin Ian.

A funny story from the weekend- the boys share a room so on Sunday they were going down for a nap at the same time.  Ian was laying awake in his pack n play and Christian put Carter in his pack n play and closed the door.  Then 10 seconds later Carter stands and yells "Ian!  Ian!  Ian! Wake up!"  This went on for a few minutes. Our little rule breaker was protesting nap and trying to get his rule-following cousin in on it too!  If this is an indication of what we have to look forward to in the future- we're in big trouble!
sweet boy still won't walk on sand- more on that another time!
Then this morning we went strawberry picking.  (Carter's going through a difficult phase right now- he doesn't want to do anything that we're doing.  So as we drove to the strawberry farm he yelled, "go home" but afterwards he screamed "go back to strawberry picking NOW!"  We rode on a little tractor to get to the field and he loved it.  That was definitely his favorite part.  That, and throwing the squished strawberries!)

Cheers to the summer!

(Baby #2) Week 14

(June 3)

How far along: 14 weeks- I just went to the dr and they are keeping my due date December 2nd (even though the ultrasound moved me 5 days ahead)
Gender: ????
Weight gain:   +10ish
Maternity clothes: No maternity clothes, but my clothes from the last year definitely aren't fitting anymore.  I never really realized how much smaller I got until now.  Now I go shoppinng and see cute shorts and think they are something I should've worn last year!   And my boobs- OMG they are growing by the second.  I went to Nordstrom and was measured to a 32G.   I really don't remember such a change so quickly last time.
Belly button in or out: in
Sleep: pretty good!  Going to bed around 9:30 and waking up around 5:30 but only up once a night lately!
Best moment this week: Memorial Day weekend- we went to Market and grilled and shopped and spent a beautiful day at the zoo.  Also hearing the heartbeat at my 14 week appt (156bpm)
Miss anything: With these nice warm days a super cold, crisp glass of white wine sounds so good!  All of last year's shorts and tank tops.
Movement: no
Cravings: not really
Queasy or sick: Still getting some headaches and I had a runny nose that won't stop.  But having some days when I feel "normal" and not nauseous have been wonderful!
Looking forward to: Summer!!
