What's up Wednesday April 2016

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

I'm linking up with Shay and Sheaffer today for What's Up Wednesday!

What we're eating this week:

We have a routine of tacos, meatballs, baked chicken parmesan, and cheesesteak wraps for the last few weeks.  Carter finally will eat all of those things and they are quick and easy so that works for us for now.

What I'm reminiscing about:
I lived in NYC for almost 5 years in my early twenties and the other day I got an iced coffee at our Starbucks drive through and it made me think how I'd walk 2 blocks in Soho to get a coffee in middle of the day while working at AVEDA.

It's crazy how that life is so foreign to me now.  I loved it yet at the same time I yearned for "easier" life.  I don't have to carry my laundry down the block and sit at a laundromat or carry 4 bags of groceries 3 blocks from the grocery store or drip with sweat during my walk to work (or while standing and waiting in the subway.)  But do I ever miss running on the West Side Highway path and through the meat-packing district, going to drinks after work, going to fun new restaurants, getting cupcakes at all the cute bakeries, and just walking everywhere and being with friends all the time? Absolutely.  Oh NYC I have missed you.

What I'm loving:

Spring!

Starbucks Cold Brew with a little cream and 2 pumps of hazelnut

What we've been up to:

Playing outside all day!  It's amazing how much less TV we watch when we are constantly outside!  It's so much better.  I would like a gate to keep Reid a little more contained, but i'll take it while we still have a big yard and driveway!

Moving and redecorating planning!  I'm having fun looking for paint colors and light fixtures (so far I like this one for above our table and this one for the foyer) and planning how we can modernize our townhouse without spending too much money since we hope to only be there for a year or two!  (Who knows, we could hate it and be out sooner, or be fine and not be in a rush- we'll see!)

What I'm dreading:

School being over!  I love the routine that school gives us, even though it's just 3 mornings a week.  We need some sort of routine or we all go crazy!

What I'm excited about:

Moving, getting situated in our old house!

The beach!  Hopefully this year we can enjoy lots of time on the beach- I won't be sitting and reading, I'm sure- probably more like running after Reid, but whatever- as long as everyone is happy!

What I'm watching:

The Affair- We just watched the first season and we're onto the second season.  It's slow, but something to watch.  I keep saying that the first 10 episodes must just be setting us up for the last 2 good ones!
Image result for the affair
We also recently watched Bloodline.  It was slow, but entertaining too.

Counting down to the Bachelorette- FINALLY good tv is back!!

What I'm wearing:

Gap factory leggings (love them because they don't slide down), target tops (all C9 is 25% off this week on the cartwheel app!)

And when I actually get dressed I've been wearing:
J.Crew factory gingham shirts, Jeans, Toms (similar, but actually like this pair better!)
Factory classic button-down shirt in gingham

What I'm doing this weekend:

Soccer, volunteering at a school festival, 4th birthday party

What I would like to receive for mother's day:

Well I could come up with a whole wish list, but I booked a mother's day mini session with my boys.  I really want some nice pictures with my boys.  I'm just struggling with outfits!

Friday, April 22, 2016

I seem to only be able to pull together one post per week lately- but this week I threw together a last minute Day in the Life post on Tuesday.  Now onto my Friday randoms...

One.

Last week I made ice cream cone cupcakes and although the icing was a bit too sweet for some, we ate every last one.

Next time I make them though, I'll hollow out the inside and pipe icing down inside the cone, because every bite needs some frosting, right?!

two.

shades of grey
BM shaker beige
We're discussing re-painting our entire living area of our townhouse.  It's currently BM shaker beige and I like it but we think it probably needs to be repainted and if we're taking the time to re-paint I'm thinking we need to change the color.

We've used BM grey owl in our current house and I like it but I think it needs to be a deeper grey, but not too dark.  Suggestions?

three.

Kitchen table conundrum

We're also thinking of restaining/ painting our kitchen table. It's in terrible shape and we re-stained it once but I'm thinking maybe stripping it to be natural.  Or painting it white.  We want to keep the chairs espresso because we have no patience for re-staining them.

Also our bar cabinets used to be espresso but Christian stripped them.  We were planning on staining them but kind of like the natural.  We just have to seal them or something to make them look more finished.

I'm also looking for a better chandelier/ light fixture for above the table.  Please send ideas!

four.
snap chat

I finally downloaded it a few weeks ago and I follow 3 people.  ha!  I don't even understand how it works!  If it deletes after so long, do you lose it forever?  Why do people like it more than instagram?  I feel officially old after this because I'm like the last .3% of the blogging world to get on it and I need someone to explain it to me!  My user name is pagmina if I ever have anything to post!

five.

I've never shared a video on IG before, but I am kind of obsessed with this one.  Reid has been saying bubbles for a few weeks now and I finally got it on video.

video

This bubble machine has provided countless hours of fun this week.  Highly recommend!

six.

And I'm throwing in a six because this article that I saw on Facebook just spoke the truth.   I forwarded it to some momma friends and we all agreed- it's us.  Maybe you'll relate too.

 Happy Weekend!

Show and Tell Tuesday: Day in the life

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

I've been meaning to do another DITL post before school's out so when I saw that Show & Tell Tuesday was DITL posts I decided today is the day!

This was today- Tuesday April 19, 2016
Carter is almost 4.
Reid is almost 17 months.
I'm 34.

6:30 I wake up and get up, make a house blend iced coffee, turn on the news and open the computer.

It's going to be another beautiful day and I couldn't be happier!  I check facebook and read a few blogs.

7:00 I hear Carter open his door and he comes down in PJ's that are too short.  I set him up with the Little Einsteins.

Then I hear Christian go into Reid's room and they are saying "hi" and chatting happily as I sneak into our room to quickly get dressed for the day.  But Christian doesn't realize I'm in our room so he and Reid come in and that's the end of my solitude.  When he sees me he screams until I pick him up.

Yesterday my J.Crew shorts came so I quickly try on a pair and they fit great!  I wish I could wear them today- but instead put on jeans and a 3/4 length shirt and put make up on.  Take this selfie and am annoyed at the finger prints all over the mirror.  Tis life.  I also am reminded how much I want a floor length mirror!

Christian leaves for work and the day begins- we check the weather out the front door.

I pick out outfits for the boys, start a load of laundry and make eggs for breakfast.  We're bribing Carter to eat eggs in exchange for a rescue bot this week.

The boys play and Reid climbs in drawers and screams when I take him out.  I make another iced coffee and call to get a quote from a mover.

9:15 We leave for a birthday playdate with our playgroup (after I asked Carter to get dressed 3 times and threatened not to go!)

9:30-11:30 Playdate outside!  It was Reid's first time in a bounce house- he wasn't so sure, but much preferred the slide.

11:35 Reid fell asleep in the car on the way home and no yelling or poking would wake him up- Carter and I both tried.  So when we pull in the garage I undo his seat belt and he's sound asleep...so I take him up to his crib and then come down to clean up and make Carter lunch.

12:15 Carter eats a grilled cheese and yogurt pouch and I e-mail about moving stuff- movers, selling furniture, and start making a list of things we need to do in the next month!

12:45 I read Carter a book and he laid down for quiet time/ nap time.  Then I come down for lunch- a chicken patty and talk to Christian about moving stuff.

1:10 Reid's awake and sitting in his crib.  Ugh!  Naptimes don't overlap much today.

I make him a grilled cheese which he dips in ketchup and licks the ketchup off but doesn't eat any of it.  We fold laundry and he plays around.

2:30 Carter comes out of his room after sleeping and cleaning up like I asked him to do!
The boys play while I start more laundry and clean up the upstairs.  They have a snack.

3:15 We go to the grocery store to get a few random things we need for dinner.

4:00 We get home and play in the driveway- the bubble machine and basketball and bike riding.

4:30 My in-laws arrive and we all play outside.

5:45 Christian gets home and plays in the backyard while I start cooking dinner (tacos)

6:15 We all eat dinner on our deck.

6:45 Christian takes Reid up for bed and my in-laws leave.  Carter and I go to the living room and I sit down for the first time all day.  He watches bubble guppies and I check my e-mail.

7:30 I take Carter up for bed and read him a story.

8:00 Christian and I sit on the couch and try to figure out our schedule for moving in less than a month!!!  We heard from our property management company and our realtor today and it's time to start selling furniture and figure out painting and cleaning etc.

9:00 I start typing this post and transferring pictures.  I have not been good about moving pics lately and it's such a pain when you get behind!  Christian watches Fear the Walking Dead.

Next I'll be heading to bed shortly and will spend 20-30 minutes on FB, IG, adding my pic to collect and my video to 1 second everyday!

Finally it feels like spring and what a difference that makes!  The sun is shining and highs in the 60s and 70s for the next 7 days!!  YAY!!

And now a random assortment of things for this Friday:

one.
hello spring!

We've been out on bike rides and walks and playgrounds.

Also every pair of pants is currently ripped in the knee!  So much for hand me down pants for Reid!

And since it's been so much nicer I'm motivated to shop for summer!

two.

Since Shay totally swears by J.Crew shorts I thought I'd try them instead of J.Crew Factory ones that I had previously.  They were 30% off so each pair was only $25.  I never know what size to order so I ordered a 2 and when they got here they were too big and our closest J.Crew is an hour away so the mail exchange is coming.  In my opinion I think they run big if you are interested.

two.

I used my Shopbop credit from Amanda for this adorable one piece.  I love that it's a one-piece and that little fabric on the stomach really makes it feel more covered up, yet still cute and young.  Only too bad that my chest did not fit!  #sideboobage

I will not include my selfie here.  Who has D cup bathing suit suggestions?!  I think this one may be next to arrive because it actually has bra sizing not just s, m, l.

four.
White jean search

I'm on the search for some white jeans.  I'm considering these.  Do you have a pair that you love?  Please share!
Also white denim shorts??  I've heard these are great- but not sure how much I'll wear them so they are a bit more about $100 more than I'd like to spend.  Then I saw these at Target- they are more in the budget, but not sure I want cuffed hem.  And as I was searching to link those I found these.  These may be the winners!  Send over your faves!

five.
New (old) house plans

In about a month we'll be moving back to our old house and I'm hoping to make some small changes like light fixtures, paint colors, staining or painting our table, and I even found myself in a granite warehouse while Carter was at school yesterday.  Yikes!  It was only a year ago that I was there picking out granite for our kitchen remodel.

It seems as though I can't stop with the renovating.  I'm not sure what we'll really do because we want to make some improvements but don't want to just throw away money.

And now the link ups with April, Amanda, and Erika!

Happy weekend to you!

Friday, April 8, 2016

After a little bit of a rough March, things are looking up for this first week of April!  Here are some highlights of our week:

one.
Last night I finally posted about our kitchen renovation

two.
We dealt with a little moisture/mold problem in our crawl space and came to an agreement with our buyers!  So we're hopefully still on schedule for our original closing date!

three.
I finally ordered these leggings and wore them 2 days in a row.  My first thought is that they suck you in but then I was a little worried that they would slip down...I did have to pull them up throughout the day, but we'll see how they do in the laundry...

four.

My bff. Lauren watched Reid for a few hours on Wednesday so I could have a little break and it was so wonderful!  She insisted that I get away for a little bit and I am so thankful for that little break.  And don't you know he was a little gem.  He reserves all of his crazy for me, I guess!

And now I can break into a rendition of That's what friends are for---the good times, the bad times... seriously- I'm so appreciative.

five.
Everyone was obsessed with the Shopbop sale and I was lucky enough to win one of Amanda's Shopbop giveaways!  I had 4,392 things I wanted but of course sizes were going like crazy.  I ended up ordering a one-piece swimsuit and can't wait for it to get here!  I'll tell more once I try it on!

Hooray for the weekend!

Linking up, as usual!

Our kitchen renovation

Thursday, April 7, 2016

Last winter/early spring we started seriously talking about renovating our kitchen.  I was never happy with our kitchen and we looked into many options- painting the cabinets (over $1000), cabinet refacing (which was like $12,000 just for new cabinet fronts) we looked into new cabinets (super expensive and none that I really liked) we looked into stock cabinets which are less expensive, but still none that I liked.  And then one day we went into Ikea to buy some picture frames and were so impressed with their kitchens.

Since they had recently changed their kitchen line there was a promotion.  And we decided to do it!  (I just looked and there's a promotion running now too!)

So now some "before" pictures.  I fail for these, I know!  Christian had started tearing up the tile floor before I remembered to take a "before" so the kitchen is a mess and the table is pushed to the other side.  But you get the idea.

The tile is up in these pics, but at least it's not as cluttered.

You can peek through the door and see our table and makeshift kitchen for what ended up being months!!

This was the first week of May.  Christian tore up the tile then the contractors came in one day and ripped out the cabinets.
I was so happy when I walked in to see this:
I said, "It looks better already!"

Meanwhile, this was our garage.  (Most) of our kitchen was in this huge stack of boxes.

And after a few days this was our kitchen!  Unfortunately this is how it stayed for a few weeks.

We jumped the gun a bit when we got the first huge delivery of boxes.  Because of the sale, many pieces were back ordered so those missing cabinet doors and drawers and lots of other things didn't come until late June.  So we lived like this (with no kitchen) for 6 extra weeks that we really didn't need to.  We should have waited for all of the boxes to arrive to begin.

But in late June everything arrived and was installed.  Then we had some problems with our granite and that was delayed so it was another few weeks without a kitchen.

Eventually in mid July we got our granite and then Christian installed our floors and a few weeks later we had our subway tile back splash installed.  Then many months later we finally had the electrician come in and move our lights and install our pendants.

The one major change that we didn't plan on until the cabinets were put together was that we added a third cabinet and extended our island.  We decided to eliminate the table in the kitchen and instead eat at the island.  What a huge difference that makes!  I'm so glad we changed that!

And now the after pics:

We went from having a few cabinets and a desk that was always covered in clutter to a wall of storage- cabinets and drawers!

Our favorite part of our kitchen is all of the drawers.  We designed it so that every top drawer has a drawer-within-a-drawer.  So this is our little coffee station above our cooking utensils and oven pads.
After the kitchen was installed I went back to Ikea and stocked up on all of the drawer organizers.  These plastic organizers ranged in price from $.99 to $9.99.

All of our drawers have different organizers so nothing rolls around and stays put.

This is our pantry of pull-out drawers.  LOVE!  Everything is soft close too, so the boys can pull out the drawers and close them too.  When we first put everything away I labeled the drawers so we'd stay organized and we've never taken down those post-its.  It works for us!

I love these spice organizers too.  It's so easy to pick the spice you need and they don't roll all over the place.  I did have them alphabetized but with a one year old who loves opening and emptying drawers I gave up on that for now!

So the way it worked for us was that Christian went online and worked for many hours planning our kitchen on their kitchen designing tool.  Then we went to the Ikea in Baltimore one day and met with THE most knowledgeable associate, Nick.  He was awesome.  He looked at Christian's plans and gave us some feedback and ideas.  His advice was key to our kitchen working so well.

Since we live in between the Philly and Baltimore Ikeas, unfortunately we were in a "dead" zone where neither Ikea would service us to install our kitchen.  Boo!  We paid a small delivery fee and all of the boxes were delivered, but it was up to us to install.  So we found a few local contractors who had previous experience installing Ikea kitchens and we hired one to put together everything and install it.  If we waited until we had all the boxes it would have only taken a few days from start to finish.  Lesson learned!

Are we are crazy for doing all of this work and having this awesome kitchen and now moving?  Absolutely.

Our kitchen was by far the biggest selling point of our home.  I wish we could take it with us!

Our realtor asked if we would do another kitchen with Ikea in the future and we absolutely would.  But we would do it all before we lived in the house, because I'm OVER living in a house while being renovated and not having a kitchen!

The amount of storage we have now is crazy.  We actually have empty cabinets and half-full drawers. It's going to be a tough transition to go back to cabinets and a pantry where you reach your arm in the back and forget what you have back there and have to move things to reach what you want.

We only have fabulous things to say about our Ikea Kitchen!
